Harper cautioned to disregard naysayers of Health Policy Framework
Politicians' reactions politically driven
Vancouver, BC,

The Canadian Independent Medical Clinics Association (CIMCA) today encouraged Prime Minister Stephen Harper to embrace the spirit of change found in Alberta's new Health Policy Framework and support the millions of suffering Canadians who continue to wait for access to care.

NDP leader Jack Layton, and a few like minded provincial premiers, appear to reject the right of Albertans to determine their own health care priorities.

"The best interests of Albertans and patients everywhere is not served by politicians like Layton," said Dr. Brian Day, president of CIMCA. "He and his family take advantage of private clinics when their own health is at stake, but display hypocrisy as they attempt to deny similar rights to Albertans and ordinary Canadians who also need care."

"Their resistance to the Health Policy Framework's 'patient-focused health care, quality health services, and timely and fair access to services,' is politically driven and harmful to needed reforms," Day said.

CIMCA Executive Vice-President Zoltan Nagy applauded the Klein government for putting patients first in a proposal that offers 'fresh and innovative' approaches to enhance the public health care system.

"We applaud Alberta and those provinces that have responded to the Supreme Court of Canada's criticism that governments have shown inertia. Alberta's plans for a European style system of universal care, in which wait lists are eliminated for all, will become a template for all provinces," said Nagy.
